The Claim

Humanity has reached the point where reasoning must be standardized.

The Historical Pattern

When civilizations lacked shared units of measurement:

• trade broke
• engineering failed
• taxation collapsed
• science stalled

The only solution was standardization: a common unit system.

The Present Parallel

Today, reasoning occupies the exact same structural position measurement once did:

• it is required everywhere
• it is defined nowhere
• it is executed inconsistently
• it is evaluated without units
• it is taught without a defined method

And now this: AI is absorbing the reasoning function while humans have no name for what is being taken.

This is a crisis of not having standardized units of reasoning.

The Stakes

When a society has no defined units of reasoning:

• it cannot teach reasoning
• it cannot evaluate reasoning
• it cannot protect reasoning
• it cannot recover reasoning once people stop doing it themselves

When people stop performing reasoning independently, the ability is lost. The energy required to rebuild it is civilizational. There is no shortcut back.

A standardized reasoning layer is now required. It does not exist. It must be built.

Reasoning is in the pre‑standardization condition. Every domain that stayed in this condition either broke or was stabilized after a standard was created.

This is work for cognitive scientists, linguists, philosophers, educators, and mathematicians. It must begin now.
